Water and Waste water Management
Jaworzno III Power Plant utilizes water from the water-pipe network and surface water from the Biała Przemsza River. The network water is utilized for the below listed purposes:
- administrative needs of Jaworzno III Power Plant and neighboring companies;
- fire-protection installations;
- production of demineralized water in the DEMI station from which the entire demineralized water volume is directed to supplement the boiler water-steam circuit.
Industrial water comes from the plant own water intake ‘Jęzor’ located in Sosnowiec-Jęzor on the Biała Przemsza River and is used for:
circuits being part of fuel combustion for energy purposes
- flue gas desulphurizing installation (FGD) circuit;
- boiler water-steam circuits;
circuits which are technologically related with fuel combustion installations:
- cooling circuits,
- heating circuit.
The waste water treatment plant is composed of the following basic technological facilities:
- a well with an emergency storm overflow connected to the circuit fitted on the sewer duct leading waste water to the water treatment plant;
- 3 gratings;
- 2 two-chamber grit separators with Venturi flowmeter;
- waste water separating chamber with operating storm water overflow;
- process water and storm water pump station;
- process water two-chamber retention tank;
- flocculant dosing unit;
- 2 storm water retention tanks;
- sludge pump station;
- 3 sludge drying beds;
- measuring flume.
Jaworzno III Power Plant Power Plant II utilizes water for administrative and technological processes from the below given sources:
- mine water from the shutdown coal mine ‘Jan Kanty’ surface water from the Biała Przemsza River and potable water from the municipal water system;
- for administrative purposes - potable water from the municipal water system.
- The following water circuits are operated in Power Plant II: water-steam circuit – water circulating in the network: boiler – turbine – condenser.
- heat circuit – the water running In the heating system;
- cooling circuit which is used to condense the steam once it passed through the turbine.
Commissioning of the new power units caused more stringent requirements regarding make-up water in the water-steam circuit and heat circuit. Therefore a decision was taken to construct a modern water demineralization plant which was commissioned in May 1999.
Entire process wastewater generated in Jaworzno III Power Plant – Power Plant II as well as the precipitation sewage are treated in the mechanical water treatment plant put into operation in December 19999.
Some technological wastewater from Power Plant II is utilized in water circuits with lower quality requirements:
- wastewater from the (boiler) water-steam circuit refreshing is utilized to fill and make-up the heating network, in the water demineralization plant, and to feed the cooling circuit;
- regeneration wastewater from the water demineralization plant is re-utilized in the cooling circuit.
Other wastewater types:
- wastewater from the cooling circuit refreshing;
- wastewater from dehydration of the power unit facilities;
- decarbinization sewage (bottom blowdowns from accelerators and discharge from samplers containing circa 1 % of sediment;
- wastewater from carbon filters rinsing in the water demineralization plant;
- wash wastewater from the plant site
are forwarded to the wastewater treatment plant. Having been treated in the treatment plant, the wastewater is discharged to Przemsza River and a part of it (circa 22,000 m3 per year) is utilized for the auxiliary needs of the sludge station.
